Research and Analytical Experience

• Documentary research of historic buildings and areas using archival sources, historic maps and photographs to establish phasing and history of use;
• On-site surveying to describe and analyse basic condition of surviving historic material for detailed gazetteers accompanying Conservation Management Plans (CMPs), Conservation Area Appraisals and NPPF heritage statements;
• Assessment of significance to produce significance schedules and plans for buildings, using Historic England Statements of Heritage Significance Advice Note 12;
• Comparison of buildings against listed building criteria for detailed significance assessment reports and CMPs;
• Production of policies to inform future conservation decisions;
• Assistance with research and editing for Theatre Heritage: a Conservation Guide for the Theatres Trust;

Customer Focus

I am on the list of approved consultants held by Manchester City Council's Planning Department, the Greater Manchester Archaeological Advisory Services and the Derbyshire Building Conservation Crafts Register.  I offer customer focus with an ability to produce documents to tight deadlines and working to current best practice.  CMPs are produced according to Heritage Lottery Fund, Church Buildings Council and Prince’s Regeneration Trust guidelines and conservation area appraisals to Historic England guidance.  

Communication

I am able to present information for a variety of audiences using styles developed during extensive museum experience with developing exhibitions and more recent work with historic buildings and conservation areas.
